Although we receive the life of the Spirit through the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, many of us need to fan this spark of life into flames. The Seminar invites us to gather and prepare for a very personal “Pentecost,” a new release or revitalisation of the Spirit’s presence.” It includes speakers, scripture, music, prayer and small groups.
Currently there is a seminar running at Church of Divine Mercy, Lekki and one of our members, NicoleCode has kindly shared her experience of the sessions with us! Yay! The Seminar encourages participants to use Scripture as a significant resource for growing in our understanding and love of God. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit want to reveal themselves to us during the weeks of the course. It is for this reason that we should become dedicated to reading and meditating upon the assigned Scriptures and Catechism passages. We encourage you to begin to pray with these Scripture passages from the course, which Nicole will share and we hope these reflections bless and inspire you to open your heart to the Holy Spirit and deepen your individual relationship with God through Jesus, the Christ.
Jesus came so that we may have life and life in abundance (John 10:10). There are 4 areas in which Jesus sets us free.
1) From Our Personal Sins
We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). In our hearts we each know the particular sins that hold us captive (lust, gossip, stealing, selfishness etc). Although we may be contrite, we cannot break free from this habitual sins by ourselves ourselves, ONLY Jesus can save. And if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36)
2) From the Sins of Others
A lot of us feel a lot of pain, bitterness, resentment and anger towards others for the way they have traumatised and betrayed us. However NO ONE has been more rejected, abandoned, physically traumatised and betrayed (by ALL His best friends even!) than Jesus, so He knows your pain and feels it so vividly because He loves you with an everlasting love. He will fill you with His spirit of forgiveness so that you can let go and finally be free from your prison of bitterness. But you need to ask Him.
3) From Evil Spirits
Ephesians 6:10 tells us that ‘our struggles are not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark works and against the spiritual forces of evil’. Like it or not, evil spirits, principalities of darkness, juju etc are REAL, but the Bible says that Jesus is the ‘head over every power and authority’ (Colossians 2:10)
4) From Death
Death is the greatest fear of humanity. However if we make Jesus our personal Lord and Saviour, although we will physically die, we will rise with Him and not face eternal damnation which is the real death to be afraid of.
This week let us examine ourselves and become aware of the areas of our lives that need healing and breakthroughs, and surrender our lives to Jesus.
Until next week!
