04 Feb Daily CCC Reflection: The Holy Spirit – God’s gift
The Holy Spirit – God’s gift CCC 733-736
We can come as we are-we were created in God’s image and likeness and we are already good enough to receive this Gift of God’s love which He has made manifest in sending the Holy spirit to us. All we need is receive this gift.
I mean its free so why not? Let’s all ask the holy spirit to make a home in us and be involved in everything we think, intend, speak, feel and do- He is ever ready and keen to work with and through us.
If we are ‘dead’/wounded by sin I believe the gift of the holy spirit comes to heal and bring us to life. Not just ordinary life- I mean a full, happy, worry free and fulfilled life. Sin is bondage- as the devil intends and the easiest way to fight this battle against our flesh is calling on the Holy spirit – not just at the time when we need forgiveness or burdened by the guilt/shame of our sins but on the verge of temptation.
We are taught that the Holy spirit is the first fruit of our inheritance –the very life of the Holy spirit. Can you beat that? A part of the Holy trinity sent to be with us. What more could we ever need? What could be better than a part of the Holy trinity dwelling amongst us. Isn’t that just mind blowing ?
The gift that keeps on giving. Here are the fruits we stand to receive through this wonderful gift of the holy spirit- LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS ,FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS & SELF CONTROL. Wow!
I have always believed God wants the best out of us and He created us to be happy and live in harmony but He didn’t just tell us how to do it, He also sent us the one who will guide us step by step every single minute of each day of our lives
‘We live by the spirit; the more we renounce ourselves, the more we walk by the spirit.’ Quite profound and reminds me of Romans 8; 7-10
“For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.”
I’d end this by saying that we are like lamps on this earth and we’d need oil to come on and shine and be a source of light. Dear friends, the Holy spirit is that oil- that oil we really cannot do without if we are to become as God intended for us .
Lets all open our arms, hearts and mind to receive this invaluable gift- the gift of the Holy spirit. We cannot go wrong doing so.
